Hurry up and wait…but it was all worthwhile!

We were up before the chickens this morning at 4am.  The shuttles got us the airport quickly and everyone got checked in.  Then we waited and waited.  The students didn’t complain – as you can see, it was the dueling DS’s while they waited.

We boarded the planeDC-Portland 036 on time, then waited and waited some more.  Turns out they had to file their flight plan the old fashioned way with paper and pencil because the upgraded software wouldn’t work.  One hour late, we finally took for the air in a downpour!  We were all convinced we would miss our connecting flight in Denver (we only had a 1 hour layover), but with our Cobbie luck, we made our connecting flight.

We saw a lot of clouds as we flew over the country today, and the flight was quite bumpy several times, but as we descended into Dulles airport, the views were breathtaking!  The fall leaves were putting on a show that was stunning as we came in for a landing.  And then to add a spectacular touch to the day, as we exited the airport we were greeted by Old Glory waving gently in a pleasant breeze on a balmy evening and the sky was aglow with a beautiful sunset.

We are headed off to dinner…

We drove for an hour or so to the Golden Corral. It was a nice buffet style restaurant that had the best bread pudding I have ever tasted!

After dinner we had another 2 hour drive to our hotel in Williamsburg, arriving just before 11pm Eastern Time.
