Welcome to Cobb Discovery Child Care
The name is appropriate because we believe a child learns by discovery. For decades, it has been debated whether or not child care is good for children. Research tells us that what matters most is the quality of child care, and not whether children are in child care. Using this research as a guide, we became certified for child care by the State of Oregon. Consequently, we must meet all mandated state requirements. These include:
- Size of groups for various ages
- Child-to-staff ratios
- Staff qualifications
- Health and safety regulations
- Hot Lunch Program
A good quality child care, like ours, can enhance a child’s development, help develop their language, and encourage social skills. I always desire that my employees be flexible, patient, caring, calm, controlled in temperament, and great self esteem builders for the children, the parents, as well as themselves. The teachers play, sing, and read with the children and encourage them to respect and cooperate with each other. Children are taught life skills by having healthy eating habits and learning to clean up after themselves.
Why did I start a child care center? I love children, and there was a great need for quality child care in Roseburg. We began this dream with five children and ten prospective employees. Our highest child care enrollment, before the recent economic situation, served 70-80 children a day. Currently, with the lack of employment locally, our numbers have dropped to 40-50 children whom we serve on a daily basis. Since our fees cannot cover costs, we actively look for grants, donation, and fundraising ideas to subsidize our program.
Stop by for a tour and get a feel for who we are. We would love to show off Cobb Discovery Child Care to you.
